"Can I make a suggestion?"

Kevin Peters 1954-2009

A Tribute to Kevin Peters.

Kevin served as Chair of the SCPTA from 2005 to 2007, having previously served as the Vice-Chair to Bay Bardwell from 2003 to 2005. During his time he transformed the major SCPTA events, such as the Bonfire Night event to a very successful BBQ occasion, continuing, at that time, the use of locally produced food, promoted by his predecessors in the Chair. The Summer Garden Party saw Kevin's organisational skills at their best and he introduced the climbing wall and zip line, which became the very popular central feature of the day.

Kevin was not only a master of organisation but had the most amazing ability to find and erect a marquee, anywhere, anytime. Remembering 2 hours on a frosty evening in Tom's field, erecting a marquee by car-light for the following night's fireworks BBQ, or holding down a large gazebo tent on a gale swept sports day, also his almost regimental arrangements of teams for BBQ or Garden Party.
Kevin's work with marquees on Priddy Green - Wessex Walk 2008
As a consequence of Kevin's efforts, the funds of the SCPTA grew significantly, allowing the funding of many extra-curricula items and activities around the school during his term of office. Kevin also worked hard to maintain the involvement of the whole of the Sidcot Community in activities, a concept initiated by Carol Harper when she held the Chair.

Kevin will be sadly missed by all who knew him, as his presence within the SCPTA has been missed since he stood down from Office Dec. 2007, by then an ex-parent of Sidcot.

Review: Coffee Morning, 28 Sep

Friday 28th September was a very busy morning at Sidcot, with no less than four other events scheduled besides our first Coffee Morning of the year. There was an Open Morning at the Senior School, Sidcot Quaker Meeting's first ever Open House (part of the national Quaker Outreach Week), and events at both the Junior and Senior schools in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support! We provided a much-needed bridge between drop-off time and the start of other events. Many coffee-goers also took the opportunity to visit the Quaker displays next door, and in return we were pleased to have members of the Quaker meeting join us for coffee. Lively conversation was had by all! Donations to this event came to £46 which was added to the Year 10's collection for Macmillan Cancer Support. Many thanks to helpers and cake-bakers, particularly Sharon, Helen and Lisa C from the Junior School.

It ended with the Coffee Event on 29 June!

The term and the School Year ended for the Sidcot Community PTA with our final Coffee Event. It was well attended, as usual and the selection of cakes were, as always in demand.

The SCPTA wish you a good summer break, as well as wishing farewell to those students, staff and parents leaving Sidcot.

We look forward to our events in the new school year and hope you all will support the activities and join in the SCPTA, whether you are associated with the Junior School or the Senior School. Make contact with your Sidcot Community PTA Committee.

The Summer Festival Week!

The Summer Festival Garden Party concluded the events for the combined SCPTA.

The rain of Saturday morning was replaced by drier weather for the afternoon, presumably due to a combined effort of Jim with his well known weather connections, and a new exponent with the weather - Paul, although he insists it was fortold on the Met Office website (a likely tale!).

A good afternoon was had by all and we were able to introduce a small arena where Becca gave an exhibition of POI, a form of very skilled 'juggling' with glowballs, and with fire, on ropes, originating with the Māori people of New Zealand. We also noticed some possible exponents having a try. Our thanks to Becca.

We also have a class of Judo Students giving an exhibition and we hope some of our students were able to have a try. The IB requires students to take up a completely new activity as part of the non-academic requirements and perhaps some students may consider Judo. Thanks to Glenda and her Judo students for the exhibition.

We hope you all enjoyed the afternoon activities and attractions!
